▲ Size of the Industry: Taiwan’s funeral service industry earns more than NT 60 billion a year.
▲ The Amount of Companies: The total number is about 3,200 companies, among which about 1,200 are legal.
▲ Characteristics of the Industry:
－Ninety-nine percent of the companies are small or middle-size ones. They are usually run by families and their customers range from individuals, patients in large hospitals and nurseries, specific religious groups, and the dead of particular markets.
－Since 1990, there begin to be large funeral service corporations that are well organized, chained and computerized. They take up less than one percent of the market and sell mainly pre-death insurance and contracts.
▲ The Legislative Yuan passed the Bill of Funeral Management on June 14th, 2002. The law has been practiced since July 1st, 2003. The law has new regulations toward funeral service business and turns the business from a traditionally dark industry to a bright, new era.
